We value developing a supportive, trusting relationship with our patients by thoroughly discussing pertinent medical and social histories, treatment options and recovery processes. We also strive to give care that offers the highest cure rate, restores colorectal function and allows the patient to return to his or her normal lifestyle as quickly as possible.
The Center for Colon and Rectal Surgery specializes in:

• Sphincter-sparing procedures for rectal cancer and ulcerative colitis
• Transanal excision for some rectal tumors
• Laparoscopic approach for colon resection
• Bowel-sparing techniques for Crohn’s disease

Although 46 percent of the region’s rectal cancer patients are managed with a permanent colostomy, only 10 percent of patients undergoing rectal surgery at our center require a colostomy. We accomplish this with accurate preoperative staging, selective use of chemotherapy and radiation therapy and a commitment to sphinctersparing surgery, utilizing the most advanced surgical techniques. Also, many patients choose to participate in clinical trials offered at the ACC; however, participation is entirely voluntary. Our offices are located on the second floor of the Allegheny Cancer Center, just down the hall from the Patient Library and Learning Center. Please call 412-359-3901 to schedule an appointment.
